Welcome to WSU Impact’s Website.

Graduation DayWe aim this website to be your central location to learn more about the issues impacting Washington State University and higher education. We also aim to have this website be the place where you can contact your legislators and activate your voice in Olympia, with your indivdual Legislators. We cordially ask you to join us today by signing up and becoming a member of WSU Impact.

What does it mean to become a member of WSU Impact?

It means that by using our advocacy tools, you are able to give back to WSU by using your voice in Olympia in support of WSU and higher education issues important to our University. It means you have a place where you can go to learn more about these issues important to our advocates. It means that Cougar Nation has a new way to show its influence in civic advocacy. And, for those new to advocacy, it means you have a place to learn more about how to be an effective citizen activist while working with others to ensure quality higher education in the state of Washington.

The need is great.

WSU is welcoming another significantly large class of freshmen this coming Fall 2012. Joining the largest ever freshman class from last year, we know that in the years to come, the need for WSU to serve our students will be challenging if financial support is not forthcoming from the State’s appropriation process. We need citizen voices to ask the state to bring predictable and sustainable funding to higher education in general and WSU in particular. As citizens, alumni, and friends, we are proud that WSU has become more efficient and streamlined in providing education and research to students and the world. But now is the time to ensure no more reductions in budgets to support higher education. And moving forward, the state will need to work in concert with citizens to prioritize education and bring stability and predictability to appropriations supporting WSU and all of the higher education community.

As alumni and friends of the University, our collective citizen voices our vital. As Bill Moyers said in 2007, “[d]emocracy works when people claim it as their own”. WSU Impact allows you to actively demonstrate democracy by being an informed, engaged, and active citizen on a daily basis. The world of big ideas is in your hands. Cougar Pride.
