About 160 WSU students swarmed Olympia on Monday, February 20th, pressing the cause of higher education during the annual Coug Day at the Capitol event. Organized by the Associated Students of Washington State University, the delegation included students from all of WSU campuses — including the Global Campus — speaking with one voice. Of those who participated, fewer than half were from the Pullman campus. Also participating was a delegation of graduate students. After a morning briefing, students met with legislators throughout the day to discuss issues surrounding higher education. They finished the day with a brief address from Federal Way Rep. Kristine Reeves, a WSU alum who then led the group in the singing of the university fight song in the rotunda of the Legislative Building.

Newsbeat – WSU Government Relations

Exciting news came from Olympia on President’s Day 2017. Approximately 160 students from WSU Pullman, WSU Spokane, WSU Tri-Cities, WSU Vancouver, WSU North Puget Sound at Everett, and the WSU Global Campus spent their holiday at the state capitol, meeting with legislators and lending their voices in support of quality higher education and affordable access among other issues.

C5H5YkaVYAAIUYoAn annual event, WSU students shared their interests and let legislators know their legislative priorities. Kudos to the WSU contingent who care about civic advocacy and understand how important it is to share opinions and interests with your legislators and in turn, listen to legislators about the pressures they face and constituents they represent. Building a relationship with legislators and learning how to engage in the political process are important elements of democracy and education!

WSU Impact hopes that our members are also lending your voices. We make it easy for you with interactive, digital resources. It takes just a moment for you to learn about the priorities WSU is working on in Olympia.
