History

Washington State University is an invaluable resource for discovering solutions to the world’s most complex problems. It enriches the lives of people throughout our community, the state of Washington, the nation and the world. A strong WSU is essential for our state’s economic and social well-being

In late 2008, as Washington State’s economic environment continued to negatively impact higher education funding, alumni, friends and supporters of WSU decided to explore opportunities to engage in advocacy efforts to support higher education and the WSU. The advocacy effort was called Alumni Information Network (AIN). The initial goals of the AIN were:

  1. To provide the framework that will allow members to receive information they need on issues impacting WSU and higher education. This will allow members to be better informed of higher education issues impacting their own communities and to fully discuss their own personal positions to elected officials.
  2. To serve as a mechanism for members to provide feedback to the university of issues of particular concern.
  3. To interact with members that shares their interest in higher education public policy.

In 2011, WSU Impact was created with the support of the Washington State University Alumni Association, to increase awareness and understanding of the role the WSU plays in the state of Washington, the nation and the world and to provide opportunities for individuals to communicate this value to their elected officials and friends. It conforms to state and federal legal guidelines regarding citizen lobbying and other political activities by non-profit corporations. WSU Impact is a resource that can be utilized by anyone who recognizes the importance of the WSU and wishes to communicate that message to others. Since our launch in July 2012, we now have over 950 registered advocates.

WSU Impact equips you with information and resources to communicate the value of WSU and your educational experience to your elected officials, the media, and your friends. Take action and connect with your legislators.
